Shared Living
The United Arc
of Franklin and Hampshire Counties
The Shared
Living option under the Community Support Program
is available to adults with mental retardation
and/or other disabling conditions who wish
to receive daily support and companionship
from individuals or families with whom they
share a home. This type of living situation
is very individualized and personalized way
of receiving support.
The individual is typically involved in process
of selecting the person/family with which he/she
will live and may be involved in selecting the
home setting if one is needed.
Shared
living providers incorporate the individual
as a full member the household, provide a comfortable
home environment, provide nutritious meals tailored
to the individual’s dietary needs, assist
with person care needs as necessary, assist with
routine appointments, support social and leisure
involvements, assist with budgeting and banking,
and coordinate with other service providers.
Staff from
the Arc’s Community Support
Program provide additional support and assistance
to both the individual and shared living provider.
