Mission Statement The
United Arc
of Franklin and Hampshire Counties
The United Arc will lead in forging a
society that values, respects, includes and
recognizes the contribution of community members
with disabilities.
Adopted
June 18, 1994
Reaffirmed
by the Arc Board July 29, 1999
The United Arc’s mission statement is
very important to the agency as it is a lens
through which all program services and advocacy
efforts are viewed. Each emerging area
of service or advocacy stance is taken after
asking critical questions such as:
How will this effort bring value and respect
into the lives of individuals with disabilities?
Will this endeavor build relationships and
promote an inclusive community?
Do individuals with
disabilities have increased opportunities
for participation? Is this
participation meaningful?
Are their voices
heard? Do individuals
affected by this action feel empowered?
Every five to six years
The United Arc Board of Directors invites various
individuals involved with the Arc and the larger
community to engage in a process of strategic
planning to set future directions for the agency. This
strategic planning process has given Arc members
and leadership an opportunity to reflect on
past and current activities and strategize
about ways to address pressing or emerging
needs for our constituents and our organization.
The most recent strategic planning process was
held in 2003 and five primary areas of focus
were described as essential to future endeavors:
Advocacy —
Advocacy is a core part of the Arc’s
purpose. Arc
leadership will work to build synergy between
our advocacy efforts and service provision.
Services & Programs —
Supports which are provided to individuals
and families must be responsive to people’s
(changing) needs and characterized by innovation
and excellence.
Relationships —
Relationships are critical to organizational
and individual health and well-being. The
Arc will actively nurture intentional and
mutually beneficial relationships.
Systems & Structure —
The Arc’s organizational infrastructure
must continue to be strengthened to support
growth with good communication between different
sectors involved with the Arc.
Financial Sustainability —
The Arc’s organizational well-being depends
on sound financial growth, sustainability and
accountability.
The Arc
Board is engaged
in an ongoing process of committee work and
development to address these areas of concern.
