Director of Development

Variable – average of 32 hours per week

Program and Organizational Overview:
The United Arc of Franklin and Hampshire Counties provides direct services and advocacy to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  The United Arc was formed in 1951 by a group of concerned parents of children with intellectual disabilities.  Their goal was to establish community based services as an alternative to those provided in institutions.  The United Arc currently provides a variety of services to adults, children and families. The agency employs 90 full and part time staff and has an annual budget of $3,000,000.

Position Information  
The Development Director will be responsible for developing and implementing the development strategy for the United Arc.  This person reports to the Executive Director and will work in conjunction with The United Arc Fundraising and Development Committee. Development Director will be responsible for the development and achieving the fundraising and marketing goals of the organization. 

Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement annual development plan and strategy for fundraising and marketing
  • Lead and manage the overall development efforts for the United Arc, including special events and the “All Aboard the Arc!” state wide collaborative event
  • Train and lead other staff and Board Directors to support fundraising and marketing efforts
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential corporate & foundation sponsors, and individuals donors
  • Write grant proposals and reports to corporate, foundation, and government funders
  • Develop and grow our individual donor base; manage annual giving campaign; cultivate major gifts
  • Develop and implement comprehensive marketing and public relations strategy
  • Develop and manage Board fundraising capacity

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience. 

Qualifications:

  • 3 years of development experience in with private non-profit organizations 
  • Proven track record of achieving revenue targets
  • Proven management and leadership capabilities
  • Experience working with senior level management  and volunteer board and committees,
  • High energy, positive, “can-do” attitude, flexibility, teamwork, and attention to detail; high degree of initiative.
  • Strong verbal communications skills and demonstrated ability to write clearly and persuasively
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and thorough understanding of strategic development
  • Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate, and manage individuals and organizations for giving potential
  •  Strong partnership-building and event planning skills
  • Thorough understanding of all components of a diversified funding base to include fundraising events, direct solicitations, major gifts and donor programs, and planned giving.
  • Good computer skills and knowledge of data base programs.

Receptionist/Office Assistant

Position Information: This position is a part time, hourly position M-F from 1:00-5:00pm.

Responsibilities:

  • Computer literacy (Strong Word, Excel and Data Entry skills are needed)
  • Ability to share computer knowledge with staff
  • Technical computer experience preferred
  • Front desk receptionist
  • Filing and general office tasks
  • Customer service
  • Problem solving skills
  • Positive attitude
